Life’s Truths

“In the grey hours of absence when one sometimes feels the presence
And the void a passing leaves seems somehow not completely empty
And a lost heart searches for truths hidden from those on this plane
We cannot comprehend what lies beyond the veil that we cannot see”

The words echoed in her soul – words told to her by one dear to her heart that was now gone. Her mind had known the day would be when death separated them – but her heart had always said “but not today – when I am alone I am small – but when we are together I feel I am part of something so much larger and I feel more complete”. Still, that day – so long passed now - had come and left a huge void in her inner heart. She had tried to find comfort in the words, but in truth, every time she tried to understand them she became more confused.

At first the words seemed to be nothing but a jumble of contradictions, a presence in an absence? a void that was not completely empty? The words made no real sense. But in the black days after the separation that comes with death parts began to make sense, and she began to think perhaps she would begin to understand the rest as she grew older. She understood the presence in the absence, for she had felt their love and warmth of their love and even though they were no longer near had felt them close by. But as time had slipped by no further understanding had come and she wondered if it ever would.

Much time had passed and bonds had formed; now she was the elder and others listened as she tried to offer help and comfort, not always feeling she really knew what she should do. But she tried her best and tried to keep others to the path of light. She shared the words long before shared with her even though she did not fully understand them, feeling they would perhaps succeed where she had failed. As she felt her time closing in on this plane she felt the absence of the one who had 1st shared the words with her more acutely

As those she had shared so much love with gathered near she could see how very small this plane was for her now and as she looked into an unfocused distance she saw a shimmering veil she had never seen. With a silent smile she suddenly understood and she slipped from the existence she knew. As she drank in the truths she had so long sought she felt a familiar presence and turned to see one who she had always known was the other part of her heart. “So we remain as we were?” she asked. With a smile they were transformed, becoming part of a soft swirling light that was so much more beautiful than anything she had ever imagined. “No, now we become what we have always been.”
