Love’s Path

Photobucket

He walked across the room to his adopted little sister
He could see she was sitting there, waiting all alone
Just two good friends who had met in academia’s halls
And created a sibling bond as both were far from home

Just a simple evening of dinner and companionship
Pass the time in company safe and warm and true
He could see the letter in her hands as he came to her
Her shaking hands and tear filled eyes as he nearer drew.

“He’s left me for another,” she sobbed in ragged breaths
“Says I should stop writing him, upsetting her’s not fair
He cast off all our promises, will marry in one week,
Now my heart is broken, it’s beyond all repair

He held her gently in his arms, brushed away her tears
“He was never good enough; you’ll find a love that’s true.
Until then just walk with me, safe in a brother’s love
And know here you are sheltered, that I’ll watch over you.”

So the days did pass, fostered ‘neath his wing
His loving tending helping to draw her from despair
Thinking as he watched as the shadows did disperse
“You’re heart may have been broken, but not beyond repair”

With time tears became laughter, he pushed her to grow
And the world began to shift – one day she looked and knew
Standing there before her as he had been all along
Was the other half of her soul, with a love so true.

She looked at him in wonder with eyes that saw anew
Had he known all along they held a love so rare?
She asked how he had known love would softly grow,
“You’re heart was bruised, not broken, with time it did repair”

With each season’s passage their love did stronger grow
Safe in his care she grew wings and did take flight
Nurtured in his love her spirit did blossom
Shielded by his heart all of her world was right

When they took their vows, they were truly for forever
He place her hand o’er his heart and said I’ll hold yours in my care
And she knew they held eternity, theirs was a love t’would last
Her heart would ne’er be broken, but held ever safely there
