~*~ Into The West ~ Annie Lennox ~*~

Please

Hard beeps and sharp tones echo from machines, filling the halls,
Halls filled with silence, cold, hollow, impersonal.
Small sterile rooms with a splash of color to hide the cold.
I sit – small, alone, scared – insignificant in this world.

I can hear her laughter bubble - soft rainbow colored water,
See her warm gentle eyes, hiding age so beyond her years.
We head out, side by side, on some small adventure or mission.
She called me earlier, just to be assured that I was safe.

I see another pass by – to or from some other sadness.
The halls echo out a room number and a destination.
People rush by, most seem too busy to notice each other.
Harsh light illuminates sharp lines and dull colors.

So I sit and wait, her beautiful eyes glazed and unfocused,
I watch her graceful body move in awkward fits.
In a place filled with so many others, each, like me, is alone.
Waiting, hoping, praying for someone to say she’s alright.

Praying if she’s not my light will extinguish before I know.
