A REASON

A Reason

There was a reason our paths did ever cross,
A brief encounter before we each went our way,
It was not by chance that we happened to meet,
We each needed the other at that time, that day.

Was it something I said that you needed to hear,
Or a kindness you did that helped me on my way,
Was it a moment we could not have handled alone,
That we needed each other at that time, that day?

The moment did pass and we went separate ways,
And all to remain is the memory we may replay,
Yet even if our paths should never cross again,
There was a reason and a gift at that time, that day.

Seeming chance encounters,
the rescuer who was there at just the right moment,
whether it was a life- saving rescue, or a stranger stopping to help a tired parent with small children and a flat tire.
Or perhaps a glance in a shop window where there was a small trinket with words that turned someone's day around.
Seemingly insignificant event imperceptibly alters a life – and changes the course of a path.
Perhaps it is a simple event, or perhaps it is layered and complex.
It may be the event was in itself life saving, a life or death rescue or a profound lesson,
or it may have been a seemingly minor chance event that restored faith and hope, profoundly touching a soul in need.
For whatever reason they occur and are gone – but for that moment there is a reason.
